An “invitation only” ceremony took place Wednesday the 14th of December at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables where the Florida Association of Hispanic Journalists and the International Press Club of Miami presented awards and recognitions to the Hotel for the multimillion Roots of Alhambra renovation, respecting the best of Hispanic traditions and personally to Ambassador James C. Cason, Mayor of the City of Coral Gables and the Hon. Cándido Creis Estrada Consul General of Spain in Miami for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, with awards for their outstanding contributions to our community at large. Other honorees included Mr. Humberto Estenoz, a well known political adviser, veteran journalist and, man about town and, actual President of the International Press Club of Miami .

 The event was held img_9466within the inside garden plaza of the sumptuous Hotel and featured a delicious seafood and vegetarian paellas, with original ingredients from Spain, courtesy of Delicias de España restaurants -the First 30 anniversary of FAHJ awarded in 2012- with a lovely selection of fine Spanish spirits and other refreshments. The iconic Hyatt regency cuisine was at it’s best and, with Chef Mark Vachon, General Manager Jeff Babcock and Director of Events, Marcela Vargas Alvarez were present to make sure the event was an absolute success.

Some of the other notable guests at the exclusive event included the Hon. Eduardo Rivadeneira Baquerizo, Minister Consul General of Ecuador, the Hon. Lior Haiat, Consul General of Israel in Miami with jurisdiction in Florida and Puerto Rico, the Hon. Tomas J. Abreu, Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco, the Hon. Dana Kelin, Honorary Consul of Macedonia, Robert Asencio, State Representative for Florida District 118, Christine I. Caly-Sánchez, Associate Director of the Miami-Florida European Union Center of Excellence from Florida International University, Dr. Joaquin Roy, Jean Monnet Professor and Director of the European Union Center of the University of Miami, Lida Rodríguez Tasset, partner of the legal firm of Duane Morris, Eli Mualin, Founder and CEO of Brickell Financial, Giancarlo Mignano, Founder and CEO of Deal Capital Network  and, Ernesto Gerandi of the legendary Delicias De España restaurants. Also present were representatives of Dade County, the U.S. State Department and the French, Surinamese Consulates, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, the City of Coral Gables.

FAHJ has presented only 7 of their 30 Anniversary Awards since 1984 when was founded in Miami, three of them to institutions -Spanish restaurants Delicias de España (2012) and Xixón (2013)-the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables is the only the third institution presented with this award and the First Hotel in the State of Florida. Cason also presented FAHJ with a declaration naming December 14th as the Florida Association of Hispanic Journalists Day.
